If I had an hour with you
I'd do my best to hear it all
You'd tell me why the babies smile
Why leaves are green then they fall
You'd tell me why Jesus died
In a way I could understand
Why everyone who thinks they know
Don't even know what He really said
I'd ask you just hard questions
With the little time we have
Answers I can't live without
Answers I need to know right now
If I had a day with you
We'd learn who we really are
We'd walk and talk and cry and laugh
And wait for the evening star
You could tell why you think your way
And why that's beautiful to me
I'd tell you of all the faces
Yours is the one I see
Then when that best day is over
Before I sleep if I even can
I'll lay awake and ask the dark
Should I have held your hand?
If I had a year with you and
If you liked the things about me
We could explore the other things
We could feel what most don't see
I'd learn what I shouldn't say
You'd learn what makes me sad
We'd find being quiet could be good
We'd know we understand
Somewhere along the way
When our year is almost done
I'll write my poems for you to sing
I'll wonder if you're the one
If I had a life with you
One that never ends
Would it be as good as this?
The one we have as friends?
Would I take you for granted?
Would I still love your beautiful mind?
Would you even want to tell me
The answers I couldn't find?
Would I like the way you think?
Would I trust you understand?
Would I see the other faces?
Would you want to hold my hand?
