Back porch
Chris Knight
A little whisky
Mind gets right
Flies swarm
Sun beats
Dogs scratch
Socks off the feet
Birds sing
Fescue blooms
Garden growing
Thunder booms
Storm comes
After sky gets black
Rain falls
All this out back
Kids ask questions
Dogs pant
Phone rings
My mind in a rant
Chickens lay
Why so loud?
Lay the egg!
Just be proud
Car drives by
Less than a riot
But the noise!
I need quiet
Wheels on gravel
Boyfriend’s here
Any peace?
No...don't fear
More whisky?
Maybe some beer?
It won't do it
It's noisy here
A little later
That first star
Taken for granted
But so, so far
But that star
That star exclaims
Quiet now!
Enough of this pain!
They go inside
Chickens slumber
Questions answered
Gone is the thunder
It takes all day
And part of a night
But finally hushed
And finally right
Who heard that star?
It expressed its sorrow
Follow its command!
...but more noise tomorrow
