It was sunrise and you stood there
You stared across the morning dew
You saw my eyes and you looked away
As if you'd leave my heart in two
I stood there cold and strained to see
Your shadow stretching to my despair
The sun burned the dew away
Then you offered your hand to share
The sun got high and burned our skin
Side by side we sweat and suffered
I hardly notice you as we make our way
So distracted from one another
Clouds gather then fade away
Storms threaten with wind and rain
We sweat and suffer side by side
The high sun shining on our pain
Then it falls low pressing the horizon
Shadows point the other way
Purple and pink and then grey slate
A sliver of sun dims away our day
This is the end and the sun is done
The stars take their place in the sky
The last light and you turn your back
Look back and smile and say goodbye
The air cools down as crickets sound
The sun set leaves me unprepared
I see your eyes when they look away
I remember the hand you shared
It's so dark now I'm alone again
You looked away then became my friend
But you follow the sun wherever it goes
Tho’ leave a heart that's one again
